The reconstruction is at 3 different stages here because of past humidity problems that caused to dismantle one season's work back in 2011 and the time needed to fix the humidity problems and start the work over. The northern side, Bay I and part of Bay II will be started once again in 2017 once the new plaster will be set. The new paintings in the upper part of Bay II are completed while the rest of the new wall paintings in Bay VI and Bay VII is near completion. The stories and the small deities are not being reconstructed at the moment.
The wall paintings from Bay I to Bay V are completed in the middle area while it’s still missing the lower areas with the stories and the row of small deities. Bay VI and VII are in a good stage where only lining, shading and gold decorations are missing. Bay VII and VIII are completed in the upper section: the lower section is still being reconstructed.
The reconstruction started in 2016 and the preparatory drawing was completed. The base color has been applied partly and the reconstruction will be completed in 2017. The stories and the small deities are not being reconstructed at the moment.
The preparatory drawing on the upper section of Bay VIII was completed in 2016 and the relief work as well. The lower section still needs the final coating of plaster before the actual painting of what is missing will start.
The plaster levelling of the new rough wall, built after heavy earthquakes in the past centuries, was stopped in 2014 after the local community's will to look for funding to rebuild the wall as it was before, thus prolonging the original north wall. The reconstruction work was then stopped until decisions will be made by the local community.
